The Brief
Organisers of a James Bond-themed black tie event for The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity approached Winchester Bar Services to set up and run the mobile bars for their 500 guests.
The event was held on-board HMS Queen Elizabeth – the Royal Navy’s largest ship – with organisers requesting a main bar located in the hangar and a separate cocktail/VIP bar for the officers’ mess area.
The Prep
In the lead up to the event, security checks needed to be completed for all 12 of our staff who would be working on-board the ship. These were all conducted successfully and granted us clearance to work within the secure environment.
Logistically, it was a new experience for us! Due to the area of the ship in which the event was being held, our bars and equipment needed to be loaded onto crates and manoeuvred on and off via a crane through the aircraft doors. We worked closely with the organisers to ensure this went without a hitch and arrived the day before to complete the setup so that our bartenders were ready to serve immediately upon arrival of the guests.
The Bar
To accommodate the 500 guests, we supplied a 7.5m bar, complete with 2.4m of screening at each end and 6m of panels behind that provided extra storage and work space for our bartenders. Behind the bar, we had 2 large fridges and 3 beer coolers for the draught beer and cider that were connected via the ship’s power supply.
Tying in with the James Bond theme, the bar itself was kept sleek with simple décor pieces, while staff were all impeccably presented in white shirts, black trousers and black aprons.
The Drinks
As with all our bars, beer, Prosecco and soft drinks were on the menu as standard. We also provided 1000 welcome drinks.
